Catamaran to the town of Rab — a day in the medieval old town

A self-guided trip idea: from Baška by catamaran straight to the harbour of Rab town, then a full day for a walk through the medieval old town, coffee on the promenade, lunch and a swim below the town walls. In the evening back to Baška on the same catamaran.

Getting there

The service is the seasonal fast ferry line Kraljevica – Crikvenica – Senj – Baška – Lopar – Rab – Lun (route 323, “Kvarner Bridge”) operated by Jadrolinija with the catamaran Silba. The line runs from 24 June to 30 August 2026. In July and August it sails daily.

• Baška → Rab (town): departure from Baška at 10:45, arrival in Rab town at 12:15 (around 1.5 hours at sea with a stop in Lopar)
• Rab → Baška (return): from Rab town at 17:45, arrival in Baška at 19:15
• Ticket price: €15 one-way, 10% discount on return tickets; children under 3 travel free, ages 3–12 receive a 50% discount

Tickets are sold onboard or in advance via the Jadrolinija website and app. Note: the schedule is seasonal and subject to change — always confirm current departures at jadrolinija.hr before you travel.

What to see in Rab town

• Medieval old town with four bell towers (St. Mary the Great, St. John, St. Andrew, St. Justine) — the recognisable Rab skyline seen from afar
• St. Christopher’s Square, Srednja and Donja streets with stone palaces
• Komrčar Park and the viewpoint over the harbour and the Velebit mountains
• Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (13th century)
• Summer swimming at Padova beach (Banjol), Frkanj (Kampor) or in small coves near town

Where to eat and drink

Rab town’s promenade is lined with konobas, cafés and restaurants with sea views — from simple lunches (cuttlefish risotto, mussels buzara) to classic Dalmatian meals. The town is famous for the Rab cake (rapska torta), an almond and maraschino cake — pick one up at a bakery to take home.

Practical tips

• The catamaran docks right in the town harbour — the old town is just a few minutes on foot from the pier
• Bring comfortable shoes for the cobblestones, sunscreen, and some cash for smaller venues
• In summer the old town gets hot around midday — better to walk the uphill alleys earlier, then sit down for lunch around 2 p.m.
• If strong bura or jugo winds are blowing, the line may be suspended — check jadrolinija.hr or the HAK maritime traffic page before you leave
• The catamaran does not carry cars; this is a passenger-only service
