7-day family plan of Baška
Day by day, with relaxed mornings and smart afternoons. Field-tested plan — with Plan B for Bura.
Baška is ideal for families with kids aged 5 to 12 — Vela plaža is 1.8 km long and gently sloping, the evening walk along Palada is pedestrian-friendly, and half an hour’s walk opens up a completely different landscape. This plan is field-tested: morning at the beach before the sun gets strong, afternoon rest or excursion, evening on the waterfront. If Bura hits, you have a Plan B for every day.

- Before 11 AM — beach, light activity
- 12–4 PM — shade, lunch, quiet time
- After 5 PM — another beach or excursion, dinner on the waterfront

Day 1Arrival and orientation
Morning / arrival
Settle into the apartment, unpack bags, meet your host. Your first beach doesn’t have to be Vela — try Zarok (5–10 min walk west, shallow, showers).
Afternoon
Siesta is mandatory. Kids draw/read, parents rest.
Evening
First dinner in the old town — Restaurant Kalun or Konoba Placa. After dinner, walk along Palada, ice cream.

Day 2Vela plaža without rushing
Morning (until 11 AM)
Start around 8–9 AM. West→east sequence: Zarok → Vela plaža → harbor → Kricin → Bunculuka. For small children, the eastern section closer to Hotel Corinthia is more sheltered and shallower. Bring a sunshade (rental ~€8–10/day) or your own from home.
Lunch
Beach bar on the beach (Beach Bar LUNA) or apartment.
Afternoon (2–4 PM)
Siesta. Kids in the apartment, air conditioning if possible.
Early evening (5–7 PM)
Back to the beach — the sun is no longer harsh, the sea is warmest. Perfect time for your first SUP or kayak (available at Zarok and by Corinthia, ~€15/hr).
Evening
Waterfront — walk along Palada, children’s playground in front of Corinthia (trampoline, mini karting), ice cream.

Day 3Bašćanska ploča and Jurandvor
Morning (8–11 AM)
By car, bike, or walk (~30–40 min) to Jurandvor — 3 km north. Church of St. Lucy with a replica of Bašćanska ploča. Entry ~€3 adults, kids under 12 free. Explain Glagolitic script to the kids — the church has interactive displays.
Lunch
Bistro Malin in Jurandvor (homemade štrukli) or return to Baška.
Afternoon / early evening
After siesta → beach or Path to the Moon, an easy walk from the end of Vela plaža toward the Moon Plateau, ~30 min one way. (Path to the Moon and the lighthouse trail are not the same — choose the Moon for families.)
Evening
If it’s the weekend — check /events/. In July/August, klapa evenings at Pallada.

Day 4Excursion beyond Baška — Vrbnik or Krk
Full day (9 AM–7 PM)
Leave Baška. Vrbnik (30 min drive north) — a small wine-growing town perched on a 50 m cliff. Kids love the “Narrowest street in the world,” parents enjoy Šipun or Katunar winery.
Alternative: Krk town (25 min west, castle, cathedral, marina).
Lunch in Vrbnik
Konoba Nada or Vinotel Gospoja.
Return (5–6 PM)
Baška, dinner in the apartment or Bistro Forza (pizza) / BASH kebab & burger.

Day 5Sea in a different mode — by boat or kayak
Full day (9 AM–5 PM)
Time for a bigger sea experience. Whether you choose a classic wooden boat with lunch on deck or a full-day guided kayak around Prvić island — spend the day at sea with a guide who knows where the most beautiful coves are, where the best swimming spots are, and where to have lunch.

Traditional wooden boat — Goli Otok + Rab
Full-day excursion on the wooden boat “Leonora” from Baška harbor. ~45 min ride to Goli Otok (guided tour + swimming/snorkeling), lunch on board, ~3.5 hrs free time in Rab (San Marino), return around 5 PM. Kids love the “pirate” feel of the wooden deck.
Rab + Zavratnica fjord (longer excursion)
Longer excursion for older kids: Grgur and Goli Otok, guided tour of Rab, swimming in Zavratnica fjord (view of the sunken WWII ship), return to Baška. Includes fjord entry and hotel pickup.
For adventurous families
Full-day guided kayak tour — Prvić island
Guided kayak with licensed guide, departure from Vela plaža. Tour of hidden coves around Baška, Vela Luka, and the largest uninhabited island in Croatia — Prvić. Includes kayak, life jacket, paddle, waterproof bag, and lunch on the beach (3 options: meat, fish, veggie). Small group (max 8 people). Languages: HR, EN, DE.
If you want an easier option
SUP or kayak rental by the hour at Zarok (~€15/hr) — on your own, without a guide, stay in Baška bay. Great for a morning workout before the sea gets busy.

After a day at sea, kids are tired → early dinner (6–7 PM) and sleep.

Day 6Hidden eastern part — Bunculuka and wild coves
Morning (9 AM–12 PM)
Walk to Bunculuka — FKK beach east of Baška within the naturist camp (~30 min walk, no bus). The beach is free to enter, no fee, strictly FKK.
For families with kids: skip Bunculuka and continue on foot to Jablanova (quieter, not FKK). Beyond it, the trail leads to:
- Storišće (66 m, natural beach, no facilities)
- Vrženica (200 m, canyon behind the beach — hiking afternoon)
Lunch
Sandwiches from Baška or return to the center.
Afternoon (after siesta)
Easy return, quiet afternoon in the apartment or at Zarok.
Evening
Pizza evening in Baška (Bistro Forza), ice cream.

Day 7Check-out and last look
Morning (until 10 AM)
Check-out from accommodation usually by 10 AM. Take out bags, tidy the apartment.
10 AM–1 PM
Last hour at the beach, lunch at Tuna House or Bistro Forza, Glagolitic souvenirs from the boutique in the old town.
Afternoon (1–3 PM)
Departure. Toward Rijeka/Zagreb → Krk Bridge (free), 45 min to Rijeka. Toward Rab (without car) → catamaran Baška-Lopar is foot passengers only.

Frequently asked questions
How long by car from Zagreb to Baška?
~230 km, about 3 hours without stops. A6 motorway → A7 to Križišće, then D102 via Krk Bridge and through the island.
Do we need a rental car?
For a week in Baška, not necessarily — everything in the center is within walking distance, beach too. For a trip to Vrbnik or Stara Baška, it’s worth renting a car for 1–2 days.
Up to what age are kids free?
Aquarium: under 3 free, 3–12 yrs €5. Boat trips: usually under 5 free, 5–12 half price. Guided kayak (Vista travels): minimum age 2 yrs — check with operator for children’s discount. Verify prices when booking dates.
What if it’s Bura all week?
Bura usually lasts 1–3 days. For each day in the plan, you have a Plan B. If it’s strong, avoid eastern coves (Bunculuka) and head for shelter: Stara Baška, Krk town, Vrbnik.
Best months for families?
June and September — the sea is warm, crowds are smaller, prices lower. July/August is busiest but all facilities operate at full capacity.
