Karst Plateaus and Views
The Moon Plateau above Baška offers open views of Velebit, Vela plaža, and the bay. Dry stone walls, ponds, and 'mrgari' (sheepfolds) form a network that cyclists cross on shorter segments.
Baška is the southern base of the island's network. Three local routes offer a family-friendly gravel-asphalt ride through the valley, an MTB loop through the Vela Rika canyon, and a long ascent to the Moon Plateau above the bay. From Baška, the routes naturally continue towards Punat and Vrbnik.
From the same starting point, you can choose either an easy ride through the valley or an MTB ascent to the plateau in one day. For multi-day stays, continuing towards the rest of the island is a logical choice.
The Moon Plateau above Baška offers open views of Velebit, Vela plaža, and the bay. Dry stone walls, ponds, and 'mrgari' (sheepfolds) form a network that cyclists cross on shorter segments.
The valley from Baška to Jurandvor and Draga Bašćanska is flat, with gravel and asphalt. Suitable for families, first-day rides, and combining cycling with a visit to St. Lucia and the Bašćanska ploča.
Routes 452 and 453 share sections with hiking trails above Baška. With a little planning, cycling and hiking can be combined on the same day.
From Baška, with the same accommodation, family-friendly, medium, and demanding rides can be done in two to three days, without changing accommodation or transporting bikes.
All three cards use the official numbers and difficulty ratings from the current Krk Outdoor catalog.
On your own
The calmest entry into the local network — Baška, Jurandvor, Draga Bašćanska, and return along Vela Rika. Along the way are watermills, the stone sanctuary of Our Lady of Gorička, and the Church of St. Lucia with a replica of the Bašćanska ploča.
On your own
A long MTB ride to the Moon Plateau above Baška. Through pine forest and switchbacks to the plateau with views of Velebit and Vela plaža, descent to the vineyards, and return along Vela Rika. The most visited trail on the island.
The 'Road to the Moon' section is uphill only, and passing pedestrians is not always easy.
On your own
A circular MTB ride with a short but steep climb at the start, a gentle gravel road with views of Velebit, and a descent to the source of Vela Rika — the only permanent watercourse on the Croatian islands.
The stream is crossed multiple times, and it's possible to combine this with route 452 or continue towards Vrbnik.

On the open karst in summer, start early. The Bura wind can affect bike control and perceived temperature, especially on ridges and open gravel sections.
Water and charging points are not confirmed for all routes. Start with full bottles and a full battery, without relying on supplies along the way.
The 'Road to the Moon' section is uphill only; cyclists and pedestrians often share the same segments — ride predictably and with tolerance.
